To my dearest:
I don’t think I’ve shared a “beauty” post ever since I relaunched! So I think I really owe it to you all for being so patient with me! That’s why I decided, I must share with you all a recent awesome find of mine – Winky Lux! I’m an avid lover of many big name brand cosmetics companies, like Dior, Chanel, Lancome, etc. However, I am also really into supporting local small businesses. Being a native New Yorker myself, I love discovering brands that are local, have an interesting idea or concept behind their brand, and have good business practices. Winky Lux definitely fits the bill.
I first fell in love with Winky Lux while browsing through instagram. I know, the amazing things you can find through social media is surreal nowadays! After going through their website and getting to know their brand, the more I fell in love with their products. And did I mention, their mascot is a poodle?! I’m a crazy cat lady, but I’m also a crazy poodle lover. My obsession with poodles know no bounds, if you’ve read my last post on 25 random facts about me, you would have already known this!
To Winky Lux, their mascot, the poodle embodies intelligence, loyalty, playfulness, beauty, and requirement for lots of grooming! Three cheers to this brand to grasping my heart. I can’t agree with it more! I just felt so much resonance with this brand, I had to try it out!
I had the opportunity to try an assortment of their products: their uni-brow pencil, diamond complexion powder, matte lip velour, flower balm, and double matte whip liquid lipstick. I am absolutely in love with all the products I tried. I’ll review a little about each product.
The Uni-brow pencil is in a universal shade, much like the Dior Universal Brow Styler. It’s supposed to work with 95% brow shades. It has a triangular angled tip pencil on one side, and a spoolie on the other. I found it was easy to control the way to draw and fill my brows with the triangular tip. The color was also pigmented and lasted throughout the day without reapplication. In addition, the color did match my skin tone , albeit the fact that I usually like lighter and a more caramel color for my brows. The dark tone also allowed it to double as an under eyeliner for emergency purposes if I did want to carry one item in my purse for touch ups.
The Diamond Complexion Powder I tried in Medium is finely grained, light weight, and buildable. It goes on velvety and leaves your face matte. Not to mention, it’s made with crushed diamond powder! Definitely luxe. I find it comparable to Dior’s Nude Air Powder with more building powder and at a fraction of the price.
The Matte Lip Velour I tried was in the color Meow. It was definitely one of the more light weight matte lipsticks I have tried. It glides on smooth, the color is intense and a little goes a long way. To me it is a more purple toned kind of pink, even though they say it’s a neutral pink. I usually would go for the more pinkish reds, but having an option for this color definitely opened up my beauty world a teensy bit more!
The Flower Balm is absolutely gorgeous. It’s idea of color reaction for pH levels probably stems from Dior’s Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm. The whole flower concept probably from last year’s hit lippie by Kailijumei. The idea is not new, but repackaged into the adorable cute pill form, what’s not to love? Not to mention, the guarantee of high quality materials. It’s like if Dior and Kailijumei had a cross over. This would be the final product. High quality material in cute packaging.
The Double Matte Whip Liquid Lipstick in Lolli was one of the products that I didn’t think I would be quite fond of, but fell in love with. I typically don’t like these type of lipsticks, because it tends to dry too dark on my skin tone and doesn’t brighten up my complexion like most vibrant colors do. However, surprisingly, this shade worked out for me. It is comparable to Kylie Jenner’s Matte Liquid Lipstick. While Kylie’s is priced at $17 USD, Winky Lux’s is only $13 USD. I would say the shade is something between Kylie’s Posie K and Koko K. The staying power is comparable. I’ve had it stay on from 4pm for a 2 hour shoot and lasted through a dinner event, then getting home at about 11:30pm to remove it with make up remover wipes. The inner lip part does lose color during eating and drinking, but it does not flake or appear to be a big deal. It’s like a soft gradient loss of color – which can totally pass off as a make up trend. I personally love gradient lips.
A tip I have for those who like a brighter pink would be to first stain your lips with a pink lip stain and let dry before applying the Double Matte Whip Liquid Lipstick. I found this worked better against my skin tone. I used Dior’s Lip Tattoo in Natural Pink. (And yes, by now, you all probably figured out that I’m a Dior fanatic. But that’s another story to tell for another time.)
A little more about Winky Lux
Winky Lux is a brand under Glow Concept and is based in Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City. They are a line of color cosmetics made from high quality ingredients. All of their products are cruelty free, paraben free, phthalate free, non-toxic and heavily pigmented. How awesome is that? I hear women eat typically 4 pounds of lipstick during their life time. So knowing their products are made from high quality ingredients, really eases my heart during use. In addition, they don’t test on animals and they insist that their suppliers don’t either. That to me is a plus! Not to mention, all their line of products are sustainably made and they have an array of beautiful and unusual colors to stop you in your tracks!
Since they only sell online, they’re able to pass significant savings on to their customers. The result is a luxury product at a drug store price. I’m definitely a fan and can’t wait to collect more products from them. What about you? Have you tried Winky Lux in the past? Would you like to give it a try? Write back with any questions and talk to me about anything!
